Summertime Water Heater Care

16th Jun 2020

The arrival of summer can cause a set of unique problems for your water heater. However, it is also a time when you can save considerably on your utility bills. To make sure that you are taking advantage of this opportunity to save money, make sure you’re only asking your water heater to work as hard as it needs to. You can accomplish this best by doing these simple maintenance steps to your water heater right now!

  • Adjust your water heater and save: As a homeowner you may have noticed that during the summer the cold water in your home isn’t quite as cold as it is in winter. That is because the ambient temperature outside does have an effect on your water temperature. Therefore, you should adjust the temperature on your hot water heater during the summer. Because of the outdoor temperatures, your heater does not have to work quite as hard as it did during the fall and winter. So, turn it down and save.
  • Check for leaks: If you’ve detected water underneath and around your water heater you are definitely dealing with a leak of some kind. If this is the case then you may have to suffer the inconvenience of going without hot water for a time while it is being repaired or replaced. Summer is the best time to do this since the need for hot water will be much greater when fall and winter return.
  • Check for ventilation problems: Poor ventilation could cause you to have pilot light and gas combustion problems. This can usually be resolved by adding a fan or a vent near your heater to increase air circulation.
