When to Make the Switch

8th Jun 2021

The average life span of a commercial gas water heater or a commercial electric water heater is 8-10 years. If your existing water heater is approaching this timeline there may be some things to keep an eye on. While the actual usage of your water heater may fluctuate and you may be able to get a few extra years out of it than you expected – the opposite may also be true in that you may get a bit less time than expected. Below is an important and concise list of things to be on the lookout for.

Your Hot Water Stops Quickly: If you find that you turn on your hot water, wait for it to heat, and then it quickly goes back to cold it might be time to do a little more investigating. This is often one of the only signs that your commercial gas water heater is failing.

Your Water Temperature Fluctuates: If you are washing a number of dishes and notice that your commercial electric water heater is going back and forth between hot and cold regularly when you only have it set to hot, this is a note worthy red flag. It might be time to have your water heater assessed and potentially time for a replacement.

Discolored Water: A gross and tell tale sign of a failing water heater is the production of discolored water. If you notice anything other than clear and clean running water please reach out to a professional immediately.

Noisy Water Heater: Your commercial water heater should be very quiet. If you notice loud noises or irregular sounds coming from your device it is time to have it assessed. This might be an indicator of needing to be replaced.

Low Water Pressure: Low water pressure can be an indicator of a failing water heater but can mean other things as well. If you notice that your water pressure isn’t what it used to be, you can start troubleshooting by having your water heater checked.
